Grupo Canarinho

Since 2004, Bloco Canarinho has made its mark at the Helsinki Samba Carnaval, promoting Brazilian culture in the Finnish capital. The bloco has been present in most editions, establishing itself as a vibrant expression of Brazilian identity in Helsinki.

Bloco Canarinho was created by the Guimarães Rosa Institute (IGR) in Helsinki with the aim of promoting the institute and offering students an immersive experience in Brazilian culture, especially through the celebration of Carnival.

In 2024, we launched the bloco’s logo, featuring the iconic Canarinho, a symbol designed and created by the staff of the Embassy of Brazil.

Currently, the bloco is open to everyone, with special emphasis on the Brazilian community, our students, and the children who study Portuguese at the institute. In addition, Bloco Canarinho is pet-friendly, also welcoming participants’ pets.

Each year, the bloco is organized around a specific theme, reflecting aspects of Brazilian culture and encouraging community integration in a festive and inclusive environment.

In 2025, we have a special theme for the children’s costumes: “Once Upon a Time at Carnival” — an invitation to imagination, with costumes inspired by fairy tales, children’s stories, and magical characters.
